The Tom’s Motorsports – Journey Racing team of Tom Barnard & Kevin Rogers scored well at the recent Pikes Peak Motorsports Grand Prix held on Memorial Day weekend at the Pikes Peak International Raceway in Fountain Colorado.  The two day event, hosted by the Continental Divide Region of the SCCA, consisted of separate qualifying and races on each day.  Tom was running the Shelby Cobra CSX 4181 owned by Gary Pfeiffer and Kevin was racing his own CSX 4180.

In qualifying on Saturday, Kevin qualified 7th overall and 2nd in class and Tom qualified 5th overall and 1st in class.  Tom’s qualifying effort in CSX 4181 was good enough to break the Super Production lap record that had stood since 1999.  During the race, both cars moved up to finish 1st and 2nd in class and 3rd and 4th overall.

Unfortunately, on Sunday mornings qualifying, Kevin broke a rear halfshaft, and was unable to compete in Sunday’s race.  Tom qualified 2nd overall for the race and jumped out in the lead at the start.  He was able to hold off a GT1 Corvette and a GT2 Porsche for 3 laps until their big rear tires warmed up and they were able to get by.  While pushing to stay with the Vette and the Porsche, the Shelby Cobra was able to knock 3 more tenths off the lap record that they had set the day before!

By continuing to develop new products through racing, the Shelby Cobra winning tradition is continuing at Tom’s Motorsports.  CSX 4180 has not only won the 2003 & 2004 Unlimited American GT class at the Open Track Challenge, but at last years Pikes Peak Motorsports Grand Prix, Kevin was able to pull off 2 class wins and one overall win!  CSX 4180 holds Super Production track records at Spring Mountain Motorsports Park and Pikes Peak International Raceway.  CSX 4179, owned & driven by Tim Korzen from Chicago has class wins at Road America & Mid- America Motorsports Park.  At these events, the CSX Shelby Cobras are pitted against some of the fastest, most modern GT cars running today.  40 years later, they are still going strong!
